Gastein shows off: Snow Jazz Gastein "STRING THINGS"
(16. - 25.03.2007: The international Jazz Festival held in snow)
In conjunction with the Snow Jazz GasteinÆs motto for this year ôString Thingsö the Gasteiner valley presents itself from the 16th to the 25th of March between thermal spas and skiing fun from a completely new angle, as the 6th international jazz festival in snow is completely dedicated to string instruments. Experience, in the true meaning of the word, at an altitude of 2,200metres literally ôOn the highest levelö, 20 concerts in around 10 days with international and national musicians! The ski huts will invite you call in during the day, where well known jazz, blues and soul bands will certainly create a completely different mountain hut atmosphere. In the evening, Hotels, the casino in Bad Gastein, the Jazz Club Sõgewerk, the Congress House and even the Evangelical Church will make sure of eventful concert days.
The opening of the festival will take place traditionally in the stylish atmosphere of the casino in Bad Gastein, and the following day there will be a musical treat in the Bad Hofgasteiner Sõgewerk (saw mill): the ôclassicalô star violinist Benjamin Schmid presents, along with the Norwegian accordion virtuosi Stian Carstensen, and the Contrabassist Georg Breinschmid, his Jazz band ôObsessionö. On the next day, also in the Sagewerk, the ôRadio String Quintetö will play their programme ôMahavishnu for Stringsö a bow to honour the master of the guitar, John McLaughlin.
The exclusive ladies trio ôLezardeö will present in the Grand Park Hotel a chamber music tÛte-Ó-tÛte of the very best. The Hotel Kõrnten presents on its stage the ôChristian Havel trioö. The third trio in the league are the ôDer Rote Bereichö û who has advanced to become a cult band in Germany û is performing during the day in the Bad Gasteiner Arcotel. Oh yes: for this special triple trio treat, there is a special 3 x 3 day combination pass available.
The Christus Church in Bad Gastein creates a very unusual setting for the most extraordinary musician in Europe: Peter Herbert û a highly gifted composer, arranger and contrabassist û will be presenting his solo project ôNaked Bluesö. On the second festival weekend the famous German record label ENJA will present 3 of its artists: The start will be made by the Lebanese musician Rabih Abou-Khalil with a melange mixture of music from the orient and the western world. Someone who excels the borders of sounds is appearing on the stage of the ôSõgewerkö: Renaud Garcia Fons, who makes the strings on his contrabass acrobatically swing, meets the Parisian master of the accordion Jean-Louis Matinier. The Hotel Helenburg in Bad Gastein presents a show of hearing pleasure to an extended Sunday jazz brunch, before the Snow Jazz Gastein draws to an end in the ôSagewerkö with the wonderful Ferenc Snetberger.
